The Most Bizarre Adventure
The spotlights glared brightly, momentarily blinding me from the audience who had filled up the performance theater. Being on the stage in a live performance for the first time, I felt a feeling of trepidation creeping within me. Recalling the past weeks, my partner and I had practiced assiduously each day to perfect our piece for the annual Harmonica Performance held in my Junior College. We had decided to play ‘A Whole New World’ as a duet, hoping that we can create an atmosphere of affection and love. Then, as I stood on the stage, I was almost overwhelmed by the sheer presence and unconsciously my mind began to work out the various implications of a failed performance. A phrase from my band mate was caught echoing in my ears, ‘Today we’ll either be in the Hall of Fame or Hall of Shame’.
Preparing myself for the inevitable, I took a deep breath to calm my frantic heart. A moment passed and I became less apprehensive of the swelling crowd. A glance at my partner and a discreet nod to the pianist, we begun our melodious journey. To me it was a wonderful moment to remember. With every passing second, my confidence did not diminish; instead it swelled as I witnessed the audience before me enthralled by our performance. We played in concordance and were perfectly able to synchronize our parts. Despite the common saying that time flies when we are enjoying ourselves, it seems like an eternity before we finally concluded our piece. Thunderous applause ensued and I felt an immense sense of relief and achievement washing over me.
The crowd was overjoyed and some even stood up to with their hands clasping in front of them. A minute passed and the applause was still forthcoming. It was as if that the whole auditorium came to life, with people bringing theirs hands together again and again, with some standing and some sitting down. I glanced at my partner and could see her beaming from ear to ear, happy that our hard work had paid off and concomitantly glad that we could safely say that we were at least not entrench in the Hall of Shame. With all these simultaneous movements happening together, a peculiar stranger was caught in the corner of my eyes. Dressed in a dark trench coat with cap brought down low to cover his visage, he began throwing his hand backwards before swinging it forward again, launching a projectile towards me. It all happened in a split second and with reaction honed from my softball trainings, I managed to dodge the speeding bullet by hairbreadth sending it ricocheting behind creating loud clanking metals as it connected solidly with the various musical instruments.
Everyone was agape with horror of the sight before them but the subsequent event was what broke the crowd into frantic, mindless run for cover; numerous gunshots. Undeterred by the sudden turn of event, I still have my eyes locked on the stranger and before I knew it, my legs were kicking behind me closing the distance between us. A frantic chase ensued and the moment I stepped out from the auditorium, the sight which greeted me caught me unprepared, leaving me standing speechless with mouth astonishingly wide opened. I am in Bali! It was beyond my wildest imagination and the next thing I could remember was that I continued running with head shaking every instance of the bizarre adventure unfolding before me.

Perlis Trip (Gua Kelam and Bukit Keteri)
The recent climbing trip to Perlis was probably the last one for me as part of the NUS Climbing Team. Though the trip spanned over a short period of 6-days, it was probably the most enlightening and enjoyable one. I have never climbed so hard on natural rocks in my life but looking at my fellow climbers who were intensely filled with both passion and tenacity; they in turn inspired and pushed myself further. I have also never fully understood what does it really mean by the pursuit of grade, but from this climbing trip I learned abundant. After successfully red-pointed my first 7a+ (personal achievement), I finally understood why does anyone will be willing to go a long punishing way to scale up an extremely tough route. The lights have shone upon me. The joy and exhilaration of sending the route was inexplicable. It was very fulfilling, one that overwhelmed your senses the moment you clipped into the last anchor. Beyond that, the sense of accomplishment opens up a new avenue, which charts you a path to routes of greater intensity, both beautifully crafted and designed that maximized all the features on the wall. It is because of routes like that, that will surely make you fall in love with them, the moment you have the first contact with the rocks. Yes, in this trip I fell in love with Keretapi 7a+, in Bukit Keteri.
Through this climbing trip, all the memories that were etched in my cerebrum are not all about climbing per se. The companions throughout the bus ride were memorable, with 4 of us clocking up more than 12 hours of bridge games on the ride, forming almost an elite team of 4. Besides that, the super self satisfying (siow-onz) juniors who sang merrily, sometimes too jarring to the ears, on the bus at the expense of other’s sleep was a sight to behold. The 30 minutes wait for dinner, with 4 famished souls who gobbled up the meals in less than 5 minutes displayed the great inefficiency of the Coffee Shop in Perlis. The beautiful sight on top of Bukit Keteri which overlooked the small city of Kangar was simply majestic, not forgetting also the wide expanse of cavern network that crawls all over Bukit Keteri. The cheap RM 2.20 dried mee for breakfast, though not fantastic, the price definitely did made up for the taste. The HTHT over the night opened up the hearts of many, enabling us to discover and learn more about our peers. These little things were things that made this journey a memorable one.
Hopefully in the future, there are more trips like this to come, but will less injuries and visits to the hospitals.
Lastly, Climbing ROCKS and Climb ON~!
P/S: Photos will be uploaded if I do get a hand on them.

Bastard...
The above word is dedicated to the desperate butt-orifice who has stolen my eraser, ruler, my nokia earphone, blue, black and red pens from my pencil case which was zipped and nicely tucked into my bag.
Oh...thanks for leaving my green pen untouched. I figured that you probably have no use for it since green coloured pen is not allowed in exam halls.
P/S: Hope you do fail all your papers and may you retain in NUS for eternity.

The winning entry...
Hoo hoo...somehow this entry managed to win me a consolation prize.

Breathe Right nasal strip was given the skeptical look when it was first handed to me. The quizzical-funny-looking-plaster-like strip looks really dubious and it seems so unbelievable that it can deliver the promise that was printed behind the packaging; improving nasal airflow by 31%.
Nevertheless, an opportunity to test the effectiveness on the product knocks on my door while I was having a stroll in Raffles City last weekend. Being an avid climber, performance is the utmost importance to me. So when I came across this product, the first thing that rang to my mind was “Will this help me to climb better?” Besides, if this product proves to be beneficial, I might even make a fashion statement during the climbing competitions which will be held soon.
Last weekend, there was a promotion going on in Raffles City and I gave myself a chance to put on the nasal strip. Instantly, the effect was visible. My breathing becomes smoother and I felt great with each intake of breathe, as the increased volume of oxygen revitalized and rejuvenated my body almost immediately. Seeing the instance improvement in getting my body energized, I began using Breathe Right strip to climb and it increases my endurance manifold. I felt lighter on the wall and moves that are difficult to execute seems easier as my muscles recover quicker than ever before. Thanks to Breathe Right Nasal Strips, I can endure more intensive trainings than before.
Quizzical-funny-looking-plaster-like strip? Nah, it’s more like awesomely-ingeniously-and-fabulously-designed strip.
